How to Compress a Large PDF File Before Printing

Trying to upload a file to our online print shop but the PDF is too large? No problem. Very large PDF files (over 100 MB) can cause difficulties when uploading to any online printing service. The solution is simple: compress your PDF before sending it.

Why compress a PDF before online printing?

PDF files become large when they contain high-resolution images, complex graphics or many scanned pages. Compression reduces the file size while maintaining adequate quality for printing PDF files online. In many cases you can reduce a 150 MB file to under 30 MB with no visible loss in quality.

Method 1: ilovepdf.com (free, no installation)

The fastest way to compress a PDF directly from your browser:

  1. Go to ilovepdf.com/compress-pdf
  2. Upload your PDF file
  3. Choose the compression level (recommended: extreme compression for very large files)
  4. Click "Compress PDF" and download the optimised file

The service is free and requires no registration for single files.
